Alcantarea edmundoi in bloom

Beitrag von Timm Stolten »

Hello Friends,

today is the day, the first flowers have finally opened !!!!!
This plant we did receive in 1998 as
ALCANTAREA edmundoi (Leme) J.R.Grant, 1996.

Now it came to bloom for the very first time.......

This is how she knocked on the door in febuary:

The buds are yellow right until the anthesis......

The only Alcantarea, I have seen so far was
ALCANTAREA regina (Vellozo) Harms, 1930
(syn. VRIESEA regina (Vellozo) Beer, 1857)
which can be seen in some Bot. Gardens.
But that one has yellow petals :!:

I just have notes about were this species was published, but I
do not have the literature itself:
Leme (1993) “Pabstia” IV(3):5,10
J.R.Grant (1996) “Bromélia” 2(3):24-26
Luther & Sieff (1997) “Selbyana” 18(1):128

Can anybody either confirm or deni the name or otherwise tell me
what this can be???

THX Timm
