Alcantarea nahoumii

Beitrag von Andrew »

Hi all,

Impressed with the edmundoi photos.

I am growing a batch of Alcantarea nahoumii from seed. They are about 6 months old, & showing rapid growth, as compered to Neo's.

Would like to see a photo of the adult plant & get an idea of its size. Then I can have an idea of what I can look forward to in a few years.
:o
The FCBS site has a photo of flower spike only.

Hi Andrew,
and greetings to Middle earth ;-)

I have found one pic of
ALCANTAREA nahoumii (Leme) J.R.Grant, 1995
so far:

Bild

This is the issue of the BSI Journal, where the species was discribed for
the first time, as VRIESEA nahoumii Leme, 1993.

The following is the image you ment from http://fcbs.org:

The author says that it's about 100cm tall when flowering.
So it seems to be a rather small ALCANTAREA.
This year I tried to grow some reginas from seed and they germinted
quite rapidly too. But it should take several years to get them into bloom.
A.nahoumii doesn't seem to be around here in europe, so I can't tell
you much more about it.
May I ask where one could get some seeds ? Do you have a
good source for stuff like this ?
In case you got any leftovers of your nahoumii, just let me know...........
