And what about this one already in the field?
It i anothe Dyckia sp or still under studies, it looks quite close to the Dyckia Dona Francisca but is not that one marvel from the rocks.

Do not get foolish by the pic. The plants here have their roots deep into soft organic substrate in spite of bein on the rock.

Similar but not equal but prettier and more colorful

Imagine yourself wandering in the rock field and stepping close to this. I did and I also dreamed with this moment. Dream, everything begins with one dream. Without dreaming nothing is made. The German philosopher said: träume! Dream!

Caught in wilderness the planta take a while to feel at easy or to adapt to the new circunstancies. It may take more than one year or two.

Dwarf Dyckias

Beitrag von Constantino Gastaldi »

They are dwarf and not dwarfened. They are Dyckia sp nana from NE Santa Catarina. Look the flowers and the flower stalk.mGreen form and the red form. Fits inside your hand with plenty of space left.

This one comes from a bit further Campo Alegre. Always a solitaire plant. Never in group or clumps.

Brazil and surrounding countries have much more new Dyckias species than our lazy science wants us to believe. Beings of the Brazilian wilderness were known throught strangers´work only. Those guys used to leave the country with their work and their foundings. That is the main reason our plants got the most strange names to us and are thriving out there and you to know just a few and lon known ones. Even the name Dyckia has nothing brazilian in it in fact even the sound of this is funny to us. We have a nice native word. A Tupy/Guarani ( native indian) word for it or for that plant long before this odd and weird word Dyckia. It is Gravata. The two centuries that preceded this were full of imaginative scientific words honoring everything fron the coloector himself and his beloved dog to his wife and lover. But those time no longer exists. But science walks o slowly...
For instance, in Santa Catarina they say there is 13 specie of Dyckia. My (nd deine) God! Just in one corener of Santa Catarina we may find 16!
Something very odd, weird, funny and strange is going on here, isn´t it?
But nothing stays fit forever! One time or time will come and true LIGHT will shine even on this blind and in many ways stupid science. Time will come for better, better human beings, plants and a better home: Planet Earth....we all ar bond to this....for the better.

The problem is to name each specie due to its specific difference... but what "difference" means????? And lumpers and splitters (in cacti and succulent descriptions) had given and give so much confusion that makes "science" so "hermetic" to our eyes... And I can hardly disagree with you about the names given to species based on "scientific words honoring everything fron the coloector himself and his beloved dog to his wife and lover"!! Why noy my cousin nickname?!!!! What's the point of this??!!
But latin description is important to be understood by everyone for years and years, and to my opinion, to protect our knowledge we have of the biodiversity.
This family, "Succulent" bromeliads or "terrestrial" bromeliads, is very hard to find in books, papers, web site... And there are much more specificities and differences between species than one could expect... The problem for us is to get this kind of plants in Europe!!! You're so lucky!!
A bientôt
