Both beautiful, same size, almost equal and some individuals are so alike one can not differenciate nor tell apart one and the other.
One comes from Bahia, up North Brazil and the other one comes from Rio Grande do Sul. Half Europe would fit roominly in the gap between their native habitats:

All pictures were taken in a rainny day. Both plants are very much silver.

Yes, really alike! But what are the differences making 2 separate species?

...but they are different even in the looks of both. The northern one bears a more conspicuous spination and the plant is a bit bigger. Even so some individuals show no differences but when they bloom......... The northern one produces a single shaft bearing orange flowers and the gaúcha produces a very racemous stalk bearing small yellow flowers and produces seeds as alpiste while the northen one produces discoids seeds. They live far away from each other. In nature is very hard to find the same species in several locations. Almost all Dyckias are native to one restricted place in nature. One and only one and nowhere else on the entire planet. Dyckias are rare plants! (If there is two slopes apart just one or two kilometres the dyckias on them, if there is some, belong to two different species!) Some Dyckia species as Dyckia ibiramensis, have a so restrictet habitat that this local could fit into your room!!!! Yes! Just some square meters and some is just or no more than 12 square meters! Dyckias, definitly are not peonies nor popies or narcisus....
