Brocchinia reducta? I need help with identification.

Got a nameless bromeliad? Maybe we can help you here.

Brocchinia reducta? I need help with identification.

Hello,
I'm new here, and my English is not great (I'm American), but my German is much worse.
I grow a few bromeliads, Dyckia, Vriesea, Catopsis, Tillandsia and what I was told is Brocchinia reducta. I have recently been told that the genus Brocchinia is dioecious, and that getting seed from a single plant is not possible.
My problem is, I have the plants shown below, that I grew from seed of a single plant in the year 2000. I did not know this species should not produce seed from a single plant.
I don't know if the pictures will be able to show on this forum. I have them saved in the UK carnivorous plant forum.

These are sibling plants grown from seed of a single parent.

This is the best picture I can get of the open flower. The yellow stamens can be seen but the pistil is not clear.

This is the enlarging ovary (capsule). In the year 2000, the seed I collected from my plant were small dark brown to black samara, about 3-6 mm in length. (from memory)

I will be mostly lurking here as I have much to learn about this family of plants.

Thank you!

Hi Steve,

Brocchinia is a very rarely cultivated genus over here.
I havn't seen a lot of reductas yet and not one flowering.
But my books are telling me that this genus is not dioecious,
it has to have perfect flowers.
From the habitus your plant pretty much matched those reductas I
have seen so fare.
But if you want to be sure, your have some of the worlds best experts
just around your corner.
The Marie Selby Gardens (Link) in Sarasota, FLA.

For some reason the images do not show up, therefore I paste in the
pure link in here for everyone to see.
(Maybe it's because the dataending is "JPG" and not "jpg" or do you have
a data traffic limit ?)

I am suprised that this genus grows that good in such a hot and moist climate.

Greetings, Timm

For a comparison:
These are images of Brocchinia tatei, which flowered almost 3 years ago.

This closeup shows the perfect flowers (sorry for the poor quality):

Thank you Timm!

I do have a 200kb limit on photo data traffic. Thank you for the very high quality pictures of Brocchinia tatei. My pictures are not very good.

I was certain that the flowers on my plant were perfect, when formed in cool temperatures. If the plant flowers in any season other than winter, here in Florida, the flowers are incomplete or do not fully form at all.
We get freezing / 0C temperatures and below here on occasion in the winter in central and north Florida. Brocchinia reducta does not seem to mind the heat, except for the flowers.

Thank you!
Steve
