Bromeliads in Marbella - Spain

Anything that doesn't fit in the other forums ;-)
also for NON-bromeliad topics.

Bromeliads in Marbella - Spain

Beitrag von Timm Stolten »

Deutsche Version (Link)

Howdie folks,

last week I visited an old friend in southern spain,
near Marbella. Over the last 20 years he has turned a
rocky slope into an incredible botanical garden.
Starting his interests with palms (he owns now
over 250 species !) he is becoming more and more crazy
about bromeliads.
The garden is hard to capture on film because it is a
steep slope and very dense, but I hope these images will
give you an idea, where I was.
Just some snapshots:

A Tillandsia rauhii, two years ago just 40cm tall,
now in bloom for weeks.

Along the villa there are four big Bougainvillea trees.
During my last visit, about 2 years ago, I mounted some
Tillandsias on their trunks. Meanwhile all plants are
established and rooting on the bark. They are outside the whole
year and have already survived weeks of drought and some
nights around 0°C.

In the lower part of the garden Gunter has arranged a
cacti- and succulent bed.
Deuterocohnias are doing also very well here like
in the lower front, Deuterocohnia brevispicata:

..and Deuterocohnia haumanii:

What a coincidence.... one day after our arrival he received
a shipment of Aechmea and Neoregelia- Hybrids from Florida, USA

The hunters observing their prey ;-).

Two days later everything is in place.

A nice view over the bay of Gibraltar (right) and Africa (left).
What a place, and sooooooooo little time.

Hi Timm, What a wonderful trip and great house & garden:D
Love that Deuterocohnia.

But while you were in Spain, don't forget to ask our friend, JochimInB,
that how nice he enjoyed a tropical gaden along with Thai food here in Bangkok, Thailand
I would like to meet new friends in other part of the world and would be glad to trade plants or seed from this part of the world.

Chanin is obviously referring to Bankampu Tropical Gallery, which is a very nice place indeed and if one could live there it is a place close to what one would call "heaven on earth".

One can also enjoy their very delicious Masaman curry :-D there, among bromeliads and other tropical vegetation. Very nice, I have never seen anything like that before.

Cheers,
Joachim

Awesome photos Timm, what an estate! So now I know what to expect from my T. rauhii in a year or two. Thanks for sharing those.
