biggest tank bromeliad, help needed.

Beitrag von designerEA »

Hi, I'm a product designer and I've been wokring with an idea of using a plant to be a vase to cut flowers. So I've been researching tank bromeliads trying to find the best plant to serve as a water resevoir to sustain a or several flowers. Judging by images I've found the Neoregelia, Vriesea, and Werauhia species to be the most capable of holding water in a vase like form. Any suggestions of other species or plants that could possibly do the job would be much appreciated as well as any other comments or questions.

Hi pal, if you think about big tanks, have you ever considered the
Genus Alcantarea ?

viewtopic.php?t=132

The genus is farely new, most species used to be called Vriesea and might be
dealt under this name until now.
Fore a species list, check our Bromwiki:

Otherwise Tillandsia australis (former T. maxima) is a very big
one too. There are also quite a few very big Aechmeas, but if you want to
use them for interior desgn, I would not recommend this genus, because
of its mostly very spiny leaves.
