Best tree for mounting bromeliads to???

Beitrag von Gast »

Hello all,

This sounds like an odd question, but what I am looking for is some tropical tree that stays somewhat small (via moderate pruning or just naturally) that I can mount some broms to. I have just inherited a small greenhouse at my school and think that this would make a good project for my students to do. I am thinking some type of ficus since I could train it, which is fun intself.

Best,

J

Hi pal, to answer your question I could need a little more information.
Which area are your from (climate), what type of greenhouse do you have,
and what are the growing conditions inside (warm, cold, light, shady,
moist, dry, whatever) and what type of bromeliads do you want to
cultivate on that tree ?
I have a big epiphyte trunk in our greenhouse, made out of dead, dry
acacia wood. It lasts allready 10 years in a very moist climate.
I would not prefer a living tree, because mostly the tree grows faster
then the bromeliads (or any epiphytes in general) and it will take over.

Hope to hear from you soon

Timm
