Deuterocohnia brevifolia ssp. ?

Deuterocohnia brevifolia ssp. ?
I tend to think this is subspecies chlorantha and not brevifolia. Anyone else?
Sphagnum moss growing on a rock, I think
Yes Gonz..it appear to be var. chlorantha
How old the plant is? I have two clone of this variety, still small clump.
This clone, with paler green and longer point leaf, my friend brought from US years ago, and gave me some pups.
This clone from Tarrington Exotics nursery in Australia, with a blue-green and short leaf.
And this is var. brevifolia, you can notice its glossy leaf with few bigger leaf spine.
This one is Deu. lorenziana, the biggest in their group. The plant can grow to 5-10 cm in diameter
while D. brevifolia var. blevifolia and var. chlorantha is only 2-3 cm.
There is another one that look alike among this complex, but with a red-coral flower instead of green,
it is Deu. lotteae a very rare in trade, and I'm looking for it.

I would like to meet new friends in other part of the world and would be glad to trade plants or seed from this part of the world.

Hi folks, since the Genus Abromeitiella has been merged intochanin hat geschrieben:Sphagnum moss growing on a rock, I think

Deuterocohnia the species brevifolia is not devided into varieties.
There are several different types of it in cultivation, but it is all
just brevifolia. See the Bromwiki (Link) for details.
Maybe I could help you out with that.chanin hat geschrieben:There is another one that look alike among this complex, but with a red-coral flower instead of green,

We still happen to have the type-plant of Werner Rauh in cultivation.
An easy grower, but it seems to be self-sterile, I cannot get any seeds.
If Joachim comes over to Thailand, I will send him some for his hand luggage.
Greetings Timm

Hi Timm, thanks for your kind and I will be very appreciated for that
About Deuterocohnia, I really didn't know that var. chlorantha is not valid.
But I refered to the FCBS data base of photo index and also an article which had been mentioned by Drek Butcher, herewith :

Thanks for that info Timm. Derek though, makes a valid point about how L. Smith's observations about the 2 (?) species lead to confusion. It takes more than just size to validate a subspecies, right? My plant is symetrical in size with all being the same size too. Chanin, thanks for your help, as usual!

Hi folks,
I also have these 2 ...., lets calls them "forms" of brevifolia.
I dont want to doupt Uncle Derek, I simply refer to what is officially
published.
I used to have a discussion with the late Dr. Elvira Gross.
She wasnt happy at all with the transfer of Abromeitiella to Deuterocohnia,
but as long as there is no revision on this subject, the name should be as it
has been published (from my point of view).
Greetings Timm

I see Timm, there is always a battle between splitter vs lumper in taxonomy.
Sometime we never know who should be the winner!
I hope a friend of Dr. JoachimInB's friend who is studying this genus could solve the problem soon.

headed for a 2 month field-studies-trip to Bolivia and Argentina.
Unless they are posting at least 50 images of bromeliads in habitat,
they will be banned from the forum
(just kidding)
